The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has rejected the appointment of Prof. Lawrence Muganga as State Minister for Internal Affairs, with concerns over his dual citizenship emerging as the decisive factor during his vetting. The committee revealed that Muganga, who holds both Ugandan and Canadian citizenship, pledged to renounce his Canadian citizenship if approved for the ministerial position. However, a majority of committee members remained unconvinced that the commitment was sufficient to satisfy constitutional and legal requirements governing eligibility for certain public offices. The development makes Muganga the only nominee among a group of dual citizens vetted by the committee to be rejected. KAMPALA, May 22, 2026 – Since it was announced that Starlink had been granted a licence to operate in Uganda, there has been significant debate around what this means for Uganda’s communications sector and the terms of the licence in particular.    Taxation of Starlink and data sovereignty are two of the key issues that have come up in this debate.     Starlink has secured both an infrastructure and service provisional licence that will enable the company to operate satellite services in Uganda. 29-4-2026. 📸: Hon Odonga Otto, Former MP for Aruu County.  The High Court sitting in Agago District has ordered former Aruu County Member of Parliament Samuel Odonga-Otto to pay more than Shillings 22 million in legal costs to incumbent MP Christopher Komakech and the Electoral Commission of Uganda following a long-running election dispute stemming from the 2021 parliamentary polls. The ruling, delivered yesterday, arose from taxation proceedings conducted by Deputy Registrar Betty Ajok.  The proceedings were aimed at enforcing an earlier Court of Appeal of Uganda decision that awarded costs to Komakech and the Electoral Commission after overturning a High Court ruling that had nullified Komakech’s election victory. The speaker of Terego district council Hon.Olema Casto, today Tuesday 21-4-2026 blocked journalists from covering a crucial council meeting meant to constitute the district service commission. 21-4-2026 Residents of Masindi Municipality were left in shock after a man who had been announced dead resurfaced alive, just hours after a body believed to be his had been buried. Godwin Baguma, a resident of Kijura Central Cell in Central Division, had reportedly gone missing for weeks, causing anxiety among family members and neighbours. According to the family, Baguma, who is said to have a mental health condition, disappeared without informing anyone, prompting a frantic search. The situation took a tragic turn over the weekend when the family received information that police had recovered a decomposing body from a sugarcane plantation in Kisanja Cell on Friday. The body was taken to Masindi Hospital mortuary, where announcements were made for people with missing persons to help with identification. Baguma’s father, Mr Yakobo Kamuturaki, said after receiving information on Sunday, he sent his sons to the mortuary to verify whether the body belonged to his missing son. ...

Courtesy Photo.  A controversial witch doctor ritual at Openzinzi Prison has left one prison warder dead and another arrested as police search for two suspects. According to Collins Asea, the North West Nile Regional Police spokesperson, the ritual was arranged to identify the person who stole a motorcycle belonging to a warder. A witch doctor identified as Emmanuel allegedly administered herbal medicine to several officers during the ritual. Police say the herbal mixture caused severe reactions among three warders. Two recovered after treatment, but Wegumba Mathaeus (30) later died. Another warder, L/CPL Kibedi Yese, has been arrested to assist with investigations. Israeli spies hacked nearly every traffic camera in  Tehran  for years in order to monitor the movements of  Ayatollah Ali Khamenei  in an  unprecedented intelligence-gathering  campaign, according to a report. Officials surveilled highly trained and  loyal security guards , bodyguards and drivers of  senior Iranian officials  to pick up on their “pattern of life”,  the  Financial Times  reported . This real-time data, including from cameras focused on Khamenei’s personal compound, was encrypted and transmitted back to servers in Tel Aviv and southern  Israel .
