Yumbe district security committee (DSC) members comprising of the RDC, DISO, DPC, UPDF, LC5 AND CAO together with Yumbe District Land board officials have given an ultimatum of 7 days for the elders and the community members of Kiranga Clan to sit down and solve the confusion on ownership and squatters on a land they sold to Aringa South Constituency MP Hon Alioni Yorke Odria.

Two weeks ago, Social Media was awash with unverified and one-sided breaking news allegaing MP Alioni Yorke Odria had grabbed an entire community land and even chased them out of it.

The meeting took place on Wednesday 11-March-2026 after some members of Kiranga clan in Ocinga Village, Rigbonga Parish, Ariwa Sub-county, Aringa South Constituency in Yumbe District staged a demonstration against their area MP in the beginning of March-2026, where they wrote a petition addressed to the office of RDC in which they accused Hon Alioni Yorke Odria of grabbing their land, destroying their crops / houses and forcefully evicting 59 households from the land, an allegation the DSC members found inaccurate when they reached on the ground for the locus visit.

Yumbe District LC5 Chairperson Hon Asiku Abdul Mutalib appealed for mercy and reconciliation while addressing the land conflict so that there will be everlasting peace in the area. With plans by Hon Odria to establish a massive farming project with modern irrigation system in the area, the LC5 Chairperson Hon Asiku expressed optimism that, such mega farming projects can transform the community as he referenced a politician and a farmer from Western Uganda whose farming project was recently used as a piloting and community inspiration message during President Museveni's countrywide campaigns for the just concluded January 2026 general election in Uganda.

The RDC for Yumbe District, Hajji Suleiman Lubwama stated that, they as a district need such a project for the betterment of the community but its implementation should not affect anyone regarding the land where it's going to be established on.

He appealed to the community members to embrace and participate in Socioeconomic Transformation activities that can improve their livelihoods and alleviate poverty.

When given an opportunity to respond over some of the allegations made against him, the Aring South Constituency MP, Hon Alioni Yorke Odria who said he has spent over 100 million shs in acquisition of the 520 Acres of the land located in Rigbonga Parish in Ariwa Sub-county stated that, he doesn't have any intention to cheat his own people and he will never do so because he is not a land grabber and he has never grabbed anyone's land in Uganda.

Following his recent announcement to contest in the forthcoming May-2026 election for the Position of Speaker of Parliament for the 12th Parliament (2026-2031), Hon Alioni Yorke Odria who won the 15-1-2026 general election to go and serve for Third term (15 years) as the MP for Aringa South Constituency, blamed some of his political opponents in the Constituency for influencing that baseless demonstration against him in order to soil his name and reputation.

Upon submissions made by the Landlords in Kiranga Clan ( the Sellers), the Complainants (some people from Kiranga clan) and the Buyer (Hon Odria), the DSC members, having thoroughly analyzed their statements, decided to come up with some of the key resolutions which we are highlighting here below here;

1- The landlords have been given one week to sit down and identify people who have been squatters on the land so that there will be easy verification to ascertain if some people might have been affected by sale of the land

2- The district security committee (DSC) members comprising of the RDC, DISO, DPC, UPDF, LC5 AND CAO to hold another meeting with the landlords and the elders of Kiranga Clan so as to look into the issue of legitimate ownership of the land under contention.

3- After generating and identifying the people who may be affected by the sale of  the land, the DSC together with the elders and Community members will hold another locus visit at the same venue  in order to see and speak with those affected.

4- In their fourth recommendation as resolution from the meeting, during this period of handling the misunderstanding, the DSC members requested the buyer of the land Hon Alioni Yorke Odria not to demolish any house or crops on contested part of the land as he continues with implementation of his activities on the land.

5- As part of their last resolution from the meeting held on Wednesday 11-March-2026, the DSC members suggested, if their finding will discover the total size of the Land sold to Hon Alioni Yorke Odria affected the land of some of the neighbors, they as DSC, will task the Landlords to identify another land that can be measured and given to the buyer Hon Odria in order to compensate him for the part that might have encroached into the land of the neighbors.

Stay tuned.
