A controversial witch doctor ritual at Openzinzi Prison has left one prison warder dead and another arrested as police search for two suspects.
According to Collins Asea, the North West Nile Regional Police spokesperson, the ritual was arranged to identify the person who stole a motorcycle belonging to a warder. A witch doctor identified as Emmanuel allegedly administered herbal medicine to several officers during the ritual.
Police say the herbal mixture caused severe reactions among three warders. Two recovered after treatment, but Wegumba Mathaeus (30) later died. Another warder, L/CPL Kibedi Yese, has been arrested to assist with investigations.
Authorities say the warder who organized the ritual and the witch doctor are currently on the run, while the body of the deceased was taken to Adjumani General Hospital for a postmortem as investigations continue.
