INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD.

By BarefootLawyers. Did you know that today is the international day of the African child? The International day of the African child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first introduced by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The purpose of this day is to honour those who participated in the Soweto Uprising on June 16th, 1976.   It also serves as a reminder to keep raising awareness for the improvement of education provided to African children. As we celebrate this day, let us remember to reflect on our rights and duties as citizens towards children.  The Ugandan Constitution states that all children have the right to be cared for, protected, and maintained but also, they all have the right to education. Let collectively work to ensure that we work towards providing care and education for all children in Uganda as we remember this day of the African child. 📷: Unsplash

IS THERE A LAW THAT SAYS YOU SHOULD LOOK AFTER YOUR PARENTS ?.

By BarefootLawyers. Pingu has not been to his village for the last 9 years. Recently, he decided to take his children to meet their grandparents. Everywhere he stopped in the village, he would get insults and they would tell him that he has abandoned his children. When he reached home, his parents were packed and ready to move to Kampala so he can look after them from there. Pingu wants to know if there is a law that makes him look after his parents WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? The law says that the government must create ways to look after the elderly people in Uganda. Other than this, there is no law that makes it rule that children should take care of their parents. However, if you choose to look after your parents, then they become what the law calls 'dependants' . This means that your parents are dependent on you for their well-being and it also means that they must be provided for in your will or if you have no will, then when your property is being distributed, the...

However, since we need guidance and supervision on this, the law (The National Environmental Act) gives authority to the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to guide and monitor everyone on use and conservation of the environment.      This law gives NEMA powers to come up with regulations and punishments for anyone who endangers the environment. IF AM NOT SUPPOSED TO PAY NSSF, WHAT DO I DO WHEN I WANT TO SAVE ?.

By BarefootLawyers.  Nassif worked for a company for twelve (12) years. During that time, he accumulated about 45 million from his NSSF savings. His plan was to work for four more years and then get his money from NSSF, but he lost his job and started doing ‘small, small’ work where he could get it. Then he realised that he was making more money than before, but there was no automatic saving like before. What must he do to keep saving, and is he even allowed to save with NSSF when he is not technically an employee?  WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? By law, every employer (boss) must deduct and save a certain amount of money for their employee (worker) with NSSF. This means that an employer must deduct 5% from the employee and top up with 10% of his/her own, then save that in the employee’s account with NSSF. However, when you do not work for anyone but are a businessperson or consultant, the law does not require you to save part of what you make with NSSF. Instead, it ...

This comprises a $25 million penalty for breaching children's privacy laws by retaining their Alexa voice recordings for indefinite time periods and preventing parents from exercising their deletion rights. As part of the court order, the retail giant has been mandated to delete the collected information, including inactive child accounts, geolocation data, and voice recordings, and prohibited from gathering such data to train its algorithms. It's also required to disclose to customers its data retention practices. Amazon has also agreed to fork out an additional $5.8 milli...
