The police in vurra constituency, Arua district on saturday 17-6-2023, arrested Mr Adroni Ramijo Jembe Agupiyo Charles a Youth with five names in Pajuru parish, Arivu sub-county on assumption of being a transgender person.
Mr Ramijo Jembe Agupiyo Charles who was arrested during a land dispute resolution meeting in the above referenced residence was found wearing ear rings and conducted himself like a woman from the way he dresses, besides his long five names that prompted the authorities to ask for his National Identification Card to prove his identity but he failed to produce it, stating that, he left it at home.
Some people that were present during his arrest and they spoke off record, expressed their discomfort over the conduct, adding that, such dresscodes & behaviors can easily be tagged with promoting homosexuality, which violates Anti-homosexuality (LGBTQ) law recently passed by parliament of Uganda.
However, hours later after his arrest, Mr Adroni Ramijo Jembe Charles Agupiyo was pardoned by the police on request of Hon Candini Luiji the councilor representing people of Arivu sub-county to the district council.
Hon Candini Luiji urged the people of Arivu sub-county and entire Country to dress and conduct themselves decently so that they will not fall victims to relevant laws of Uganda.
Youthful Adroni Ramijo Jembe Charles Agupiyo becomes the first person in the history of entire WestNile region to be arrested on suspicions of being a "Transgender" before even the homosexuality law was enacted.
