Killers of Former Masindi DHO Dr Abiriga Jino Have Confessed, Asked for Forgiveness.

The killers of the former Masindi district health officer, Dr. Jino Abiriga have pleaded guilty of murdering the health official and convicted of murder.

While appearing before Lady Justice Babirye Mary, the resident judge of the High Court in Masindi on Thursday 11-September-2025, Betty Cherotich, the deceased’s wife, Martin Kipsang, and Joshua Namureng pleaded guilty of killing Dr. Abiriga and pleaded for forgiveness.

Dr Abiriga Jino met his death on Sunday 7-January-2024 after he was gruesomely slaughtered from his house and body dumped in a nearby area at his home in Masindi District.
Investigations revealed that Cherotich’s motive stemmed from marital strife and suspicions of infidelity.

Counsel Harriet Ajok, the defence lawyer for the three Accused, asked court to consider a minimum sentence for the three convicts, arguing that they had pleaded guilty and had no previous criminal records.

However, the Masindi Resident State Attorney, Naziri Charlotte said the degree of injury caused to the deceased was serious and was a traumatic experience to the family, the deceased was a respected doctor providing essential health services.

In her ruling, Lady Justice Babirye adjourned the case to September 22, 2025, for judgement.
Speaking to Kabalega FM after the court session, Dr Abiriga’s elder brother, Syrus Akuma, said court should issue the minimum punishment since the convicts had admitted to the crime.

Lab Student Drowned, Body Missing in Rokoze Lake in Nyadri Sub-county, Maracha District.
