Following a news that broke over the weekend about one of the Maracha District Tractor parked in an area in Arua City, the technical head for that department has responded to the news, dismissing the news that it was abandoned.
In 2018 / 2019 financial year, Ministry of Agriculture donated 2 Tractors each to some of the districts in Uganda, where Maracha District local government was blessed to receive two and it dispatched one to be stationed near Ayi bridge, Nyadri Sub-county for Farmers in Maracha East Constituency and the other was dispatched to be at Oluo Hill in Okokoro Town Council for Farmers in Maracha Constituency.
However, the Tractor for Farmers in Maracha Constituency broke down for days and it was taken to Arua City, where our reporter came across it over the weekend and found it in a dilapidated state, with a flat tire and some parts of the Engine scattered.
Speaking through a telephone call interview with Dr Candia Alex the production Officer for Maracha District on Monday evening, 25-8-2025, he said that, indeed the Tractor is down and it was taken to Arua for some mechanical repair, demystifying the claim of abandoning the Tractor.
“The Tractor belongs to the Farmers Association in Maracha District, and as you can see in that photo uploaded, its engine has been separated from the other and it is so because the mechanics are trying to repair it”, Dr Candia stated while affirming that, the spare part may arrive from Kampala in three days time and the Tractor will be driven back to its initial station where it was helping the farmers to plow their garden.
It should be noted that, in 2024, Maracha District council passed a resolution, directing any faulty vehicle of the district but pending repair should be parked at the district headquarter.
The decision by the council came weeks after we reported a news about a whitish double cabin under the district Health department which was parked at Arua District headquarter for almost one year and the news story generated widespread condemnation and criticism on Social Media against Maracha District leaders.
Stay tuned.
