The Director of Legal Services for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party, Counsel Enoch Barata and the Director for Finance and Administration for the party, Hajjat Medina have both tasked NRM Party members and the police in Yumbe District to recover millions of monies that were allegedly stolen during the Party's mobilization campaigns and baraza ahead of the women Council and LC1 Chairpersons elections.

This mega meeting which took place at Yumbe District headquarter on Sunday 2-August-2026 follows the arrest of the Yumbe District NRM Party Chairperson Mr Aniku Majid and the Admin Mr Adiga Rasul who were briefly arrested on Tuesday evening 28-7-2026 on orders of the State Minister for Information, Communication, Technology and National Guidance, Hon Alioni York Odria, and later they were released on Police bond over mismanagement of the NRM party money.

According to the records, Yumbe District received 345,250,000 Shs when the NRM Party recently distributed to its structures (offices) in all the districts in Uganda, monies for mobilization and flag bearers in the Women Council and LC1 Chairpersons elections across the Country.

It's alleged that, the Yumbe District NRM Chairperson Mr Aniku Majid and the Admin Mr Adiga Rasul connived together with some Sub-county NRM Chairpersons to embezzle NRM village baraza money by giving 50,000 Shs per village instead of the 100,000 Shs which the party had allocated for the barazas, they also gave 10,000 Shs only to each of those NRM women league members who were going for women council election yet they were to receive 20,000 Shs, and lastly, they deducted 10,000 Shs from each LC1 Chairperson yet those LC1 Chairpersons were supposed to get 50,000 Shs each as allowance and 10,000 Shs each as transport refund totaling to 60,000 Shs per LC1 Chairperson.

Also in the same meeting, another information emerged from the Sub-county NRM Chairpersons that the accused persons allegedly took to them two different documents to be signed to acknowledge the recipient of the monies they distributed for the two events.

Despite acknowledging that he signed the documents with erroneous and mismatching figures of monies disbursed, the Yumbe District NRM Chairperson Mr Aniku Majid, while given the opportunity to respond to some of the allegations made against him, denied having deliberate intention to embezzle NRM Party money sent for the people, but he rather accused the district NRM Admin Mr Adiga Rasul of betraying him.

In his concluding remarks in the meeting, Mr Aniku pronounced his decision to step down from contesting again for Yumbe District NRM Party Chairperson position come 2030.

“Sometimes you think you are working well yet some people will not see and realize that, but instead they will judge, undermine and fight you”, he said while insisting on his innocence in the corruption allegations. The party Chairperson pledged not to run into hiding like the Admin Mr Adiga Rasul, but rather he will be and stay in Yumbe District to await and accept whatever decision the security and the party shall take against him.

While passing the resolutions during the meeting, Mr Enoch Barata the Legal Director for NRM Party, directed police to continue investigating the case and urged the Sub-county NRM Party Chairpersons to help the police with the investigation by volunteering information related to the mismanagement of the monies.

“We recommend that, all of you NRM Party Chairpersons from the Sub-counties should help the police in the investigation by going to make statements pertaining how much money you received per Sub-county and how you spent”, the Party's legal director Counsel Barata stated, adding that, if they don't go to make their statements in the police, then the statements the accused persons had made in the police, will remain as the correct statement.

He further directed the accused persons who are signatories to Yumbe District NRM Party bank account, to step aside and tasked the Party's DEC Members at the district with the guidance of the DAF, Medina to identify some people who will at the moment, be the signatories to manage the Party's bank account in the district.

The Director for Administration and Finance, Hajjat Medina Neiham Ojale appealed to the party officials in the district to go and make statements to the police, emphasizing that, even for them as officials from the NRM Party Secretariat, they are also going to make statements to the police pertaining the monies they approved and sent to the party account of the district.

She cautioned the police in Yumbe District Central Police Station not to frustrate the investigation by taking bribes from the accused or those who will be going to make statements to the police.

“We have had brokers or some police officers in such situations who move around telling the accused to pay some money so that they can talk with the District Police Commander (DPC) and the case dies there”, she hinted while telling the Chairpersons to report to them such people or police officers.

Stay tuned.
