The NRM Party Chairperson for Yumbe District Mr Aniku Majid and the NRM Admin Mr Adiga Rasul have been arrested and detained in Yumbe District Central Police Station on orders of the State Minister for Information, Communication, Technology and National Guidance, Hon Alioni York Odria.
Their arrest under SD Reference Yumbe GEF 011/2026, which took place on Tuesday 28-7-2026 follows allegations of their involvement in mismanagement of 345 million Shs, which the NRM Party had sent to Yumbe District to facilitate village baraza and the election of Women Council and LC1 Chairpersons.
It should be noted that, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party recently sent to all the districts in Uganda, monies to facilitate the process and campaigns for their candidates contesting in women council and LC1 Chairpersons elections across the country.
It's claimed that the Yumbe District NRM Party Chairperson and the Admin embezzled over 60 Million Shs out of the 345,250,000 Shs Yumbe District received from the NRM Party Secretariat to facilitate their NRM candidates in women council election, village barazas and LC1 Chairperson elections.
Speaking to the Minister in a telephone call interview on Wednesday afternoon 12PM 29-7-2026, the anti-corruption crusader Hon Odria who is also the MP for Aringa South Constituency in Yumbe District, stated that, the District NRM Chairperson and the Admin connived together with some Sub-county NRM Chairpersons to embezzle NRM village baraza money by giving 50,000 Shs per village instead of the 100,000 Shs which the party had allocated for the barazas.
“These people embezzled 50% of the money NRM Party sent to the district. They gave 50,000 Shs each to all the villages for the baraza”, Hon Minister Odria explained, adding that, they also deducted another 10,000 Shs from each LC1 Chairperson yet those LC1 Chairpersons are supposed to get a total of 60,000 Shs each of which the 50,000 Shs each was meant for their allowance for the baraza and 10,000 Shs each as transport.
According to Minister Odria, the NRM women league who were going for the Women Council election in the district were either not spared by the District party Chairperson and the Admin.
He further said that the two NRM officials of the district gave only 10,000 Shs to each of those women, instead of giving 20,000 Shs.
Hon Odria, upon his appointment as State Minister, immediately promised to intensify his fight against corruption, through the means of technology, added that, the NRM Party Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong and the lead counsel for the NRM Party, Counsel Enock Barata have already called him to affirm their support and commitment to pursue this case to its logical conclusion.
In a public statement written and shared on Social Media by SP Asea Collins, the police spokesperson for North WestNile region, confirmed that the two suspects, Mr Aniku Majid Haruna the NRM Chairperson and Mr Adiga Rasul the NRM Admin were on Tuesday 28-7-2026 arrested and detained at Yumbe District Central Police station pending further investigation into the corruption allegation.
