Electoral Commission to Hold Fresh Election in 13 Polling Stations in Ajuri County After Government Chief Whip Hon. Obua Suffered Defeat During 15-1-2026 General Election.

In a remarkable development preceding the 2026 general elections, the Government Chief Whip, Hamson Obua, suffered a surprise defeat in the Ajuri County Alebtong District seat in Northern Uganda's Lango sub-region, losing to Samuel Okwir. 

To take a way the shame of the whip loosing, electoral Commission has alleged called for vote recount to suggesting a by election on day one. 

Despite running as the official candidate for the National Resistance Movement, Obua was ousted by Okwir, who successfully contested as an Independent candidate.

Formerly a teacher, Samuel Okwir effectively positioned himself as a grassroots alternative, focusing on localized issues such as enhanced health services and direct community engagement, thereby distinguishing himself from Obua's emphasis on national parliamentary duties in Kampala.

 Okwir's triumph is noteworthy, as he garnered substantial support from the NRM's traditional base, underscoring the growing influence of Independent candidates in Northern Uganda who, despite previously affiliating with or still leaning towards the NRM, have emerged as a significant challenge to official party candidates.
