The office of Maracha District Electoral Commission, has on Wednesday 22-10-2025 confirmed successful conclusion of Day One Nomination exercise for Parliamentary Candidates with strict adherence to the Law and guidelines issued by the Commission Headquarter.
This communication was made on Wednesday evening after the Electoral Commission had duly nominated 5 Candidates vying for various Parliamentary positions in Maracha District.
“Stakeholders are urged to strictly follow the prescribed procedures to ensure a smooth nomination process and avoid any inconveniences”, reads part of the guideline issued by the Electoral Commission Uganda as it had banned highway processions enroute to the Electoral Commission Office.
While speaking during a press conference on Wednesday 22-10-2025, the Returning Officer for Maracha District Electoral Commission, Munduga Kennedy acknowledged the smooth running of the nomination exercise on the first day as all the nominated candidates complied with the Law, including among others, not going with a procession into the Electoral Commission Office as they await official launch of their campaigns on 10-November-2025.
When we asked him about other challenges and hiccups that might be hampering the nomination process, the Returning Officer, Mr Kennedy was able to confirm that, one candidate, in the names of Lizz Masia Lillian who is contesting on FDC Party ticket for the position of Maracha District Woman MP seat, was sent away over a missing academic document.
“Presently, our Candidates have been cooperating and adhering to the guidelines shared by the Commission”, the Returning Officer stated but he hinted on other gaps affecting the exercise, where a Candidate together with the nominator, may show up without photocopying their National IDs as prescribed in the guidelines the Commission issued to them the candidates.
With 5 Candidates so far nominated on Day One, the Returning Officer, Mr Kennedy is optimistic that, they will nominate 10 Candidates on Day Two of the exercise as indicated in the booking time each of them opted for with the Electoral Commission, which will bring the total number of duly nominated candidates in the Three Electoral areas of Maracha District Women MP seat, Maracha Constituency and Maracha East Constituency, to 15 candidates competing over 3 positions.
Unlike one Candidate, Masia Lizzy Lillian contesting on FDC Party ticket for Maracha District woman MP position who was chased away on Wednesday afternoon over missing academic document, five candidates were successfully nominated on day one of the exercise, and they include; Uhuru Nelson (NRM) contesting for Maracha Constituency MP position, Abiti Emmanuel (DP) vying for Maracha East Constituency MP position, Aliti Tom Candia (NRM) contesting for Maracha East Constituency MP position, Angucia Vivian (NUP) vying for Maracha District woman MP position and lastly Aduma Yeero Justus (Independent) vying for Maracha East Constituency MP position.
It should be noted that, following the release of the 2025 / 2026 electoral roadmap and adjustments to that effect, Nomination for Parliamentary candidates take place on 22nd and 23-October-2025, as the official campaigns start on 10-November-2025 and end on 13-January-2026, and the polling day for the general election both Presidential and Parliamentary, will be held on 15-January-2026.
Stay tuned.
