The official NRM Party flag bearer for Maracha East Constituency MP position 2026 - 2031, Dr Aliti Tom Candia has on Wednesday 20-8-2025 addressed his first press conference after winning both the 17-7-2025 NRM Party primary election and also the election petition that was filed against his victory before the NRM Tribunal by one of the Candidates, Mr Aduma Yeero Justus.
It should be noted that, during the 17-7-2025 NRM Primary election for Maracha East Constituency, 6 candidates contested and Aliti Tom Candia was declared the winner after he garnered 10,454 votes, followed by Aduma Yeero Justus who came in the second position after he garnered 8,310 votes, Adima Patrick garnered 4,244 votes, Amandu Tahiri Karim garnered 4,060 votes, Hon Ruth Lematia Molly Ondoru garnered 2,377 votes and lastly was Edema John Bosco who garnered 483 votes.
Dissatisfied by whatever transpired towards the end of the joint campaigns and claims of violence, voter bribery, intimidation and fabrication of the 17-7-2025 NRM Primary election, Aduma Yeero Justus who came second in the race filed a petition against before the NRM Party True, seeking to nullify the victory of Dr Aliti Tom Candia, a case which was heard on 3-August-2025 and dismissed on 12-August-2025 on grounds of insufficient evidence by the petitioner to prove the allegations made in his decision.
In his opening remarks during the press conference, Dr Aliti Tom Candia thanked the people of Maracha East Constituency for entrusting him with the flag, and he also thanked the NRM Tribunal for upholding his victory which he said, is the Voice and Trust of the people of Maracha East Constituency.
On the deplorable health sector of the district, Dr Aliti Tom Candia who was a Commissioner in the Ministry of Health, before he retired to contest in the NRM primary election, promised to boost the health sector by lobbying for a hospital for Maracha District which has lacked a general hospital for close to 16 years now.
“The resources which the government has, is not enough to at once allocate hospitals to all the districts in need, but it needs politicians with accurate data and strong lobbying capacity that will enable the person to succeed in lobbying for a hospital”, Dr Aliti stated while mentioning at himself as the only Candidate in the Maracha East Constituency MP race who is having a strong connection to lobby and secure a hospital for the district once he is elected in the upcoming 2026 general election.
When we asked him for a comment over his experience as a candidate who participated in the joint campaigns and also the NRM Party primary election from June 2026 to July 2025, Dr Aliti Tom was quick to acknowledge the method of voting by lining as the best because it blocks vote rigging and eliminates those pretending to support and love you, but he pointed at some level of hooliganism that transpired during the Joint campaigns and he recommended for beefed up security if the NRM Party is still going to continue with the method of joint campaigns.
“The entire NRM primary election was okay, except there were some unruly hooligans you can't know where they came from and whose supporters they are but they just get drunk and make a lot of noise that disrupts and detracts the candidates from addressing crowd during the joint campaigns”, he lamented.
As the political environment gains momentum in Maracha District and the entire Country Uganda, so far, 7 potential candidates, namely; Abiti Sunday (DP Party), Aduma Yeero Justus (Independent), Aliti Tom Candia (NRM Part), Asau Sunday (Independent), Avaga Morris (NUP party), Mawa Jeremiah Collines (Independent) and Mawa John (FDC Party) have shown their interests to contest for the Maracha East Constituency MP position.
Stay tuned.
