A Heartfelt Appreciation to Fr Edger & Fr Thomas, a Call for Compassion
By JB
It was truly refreshing to be visited by my parish priests Oleba from Maracha Fr.Edger Mugizi Oleba and Pp Ragem Fr Thomas Opolot, especially after my return from the political race in Maracha East, where the results didn’t turn out as desired. Their visit came at a timely moment, offering both spiritual and emotional strength. This act of kindness speaks volumes and reshapes the way we perceive people who may have lost in elections or other competitive arenas.
It’s important to recognize that those who do not succeed in politics often go through immense stress. The pain can come from many directions; disappointment from loss, regret over the high financial cost of campaigning, bankruptcy, debt, or even psychological pressure from critics and opponents. While some may find humor in others’ losses, the reality is far from amusing for those going through it.
That’s why gestures like the visit from Fr. Edger and Fr. Thomas, who traveled all the way from Maracha and Arua respectively are incredibly meaningful. I sincerely urge everyone: let us continue to check on and support those who may be silently struggling after setbacks. We may not fully understand their battles, but a simple act of kindness can go a long way.
In life, it’s better to try and not succeed than to never try at all. We all stumble, but resilience is what leads to future victories. To those who win, be reminded that today's incumbents for fail were once challengers and even they can fall. Success can shift unexpectedly, so let’s all learn to be humble.
So, what am I really saying?
Let’s support those who’ve experienced losses, not just in politics, but in any part of life. Encourage them emotionally, physically, materially, and yes, even financially if you can (this is a general observation, not a request). What matters most is the spirit behind the support.
I am deeply grateful to Fr. Edger and Fr. Thomas for their visit and the time they dedicated, four days of their presence meant the world. I also thank all those who’ve encouraged me after the primary election results. It wasn’t a loss it was a lesson.
