RE: URGENT APPEAL FOR PEACEFUL CAMPAIGNS IN MARACHA COUNTY

Dear brothers,

I write to you today not just as individuals seeking the mandate of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Maracha County, but as prospective leaders who wish to be entrusted with the hopes and safety of your constituents. It is with deep concern and profound disappointment that i address the disturbing reports of violence, including the tragic potential for loss of life, involving your agents during the ongoing joint NRM campaigns in Oluvu Sub County.

The democratic process, especially within your cherished NRM, is fundamentally a competition of ideas, visions, and service records – not a physical contest or a battleground for fists, let alone lethal force. The very purpose of campaigning is to engage voters, articulate policies, and demonstrate why you are the best candidate to represent their interests. How can you effectively serve a community if the pursuit of that opportunity is marred by bloodshed?

I appeal to you to reflect deeply on who you will lead. If the fierce competition for the NRM flag results in the injury or death of your prospective voters, agents, or even yourselves, who exactly will be left for you to lead? A community grieving lost sons and daughters? Families shattered by violence ignited in the name of your political ambitions? Leadership requires a living, thriving constituency – violence destroys that very foundation.

What example are you setting? The conduct of your campaigns sets the immediate and future tone for politics in Maracha. By allowing or failing to decisively curb violence among your supporters, you are teaching the youth and the entire community that conflict and brute force are acceptable tools in political discourse. Is this the legacy you wish to establish before even securing the nomination? True leadership demands setting an example of tolerance, respect, and peaceful engagement.

If both of you excel in violence, it's foreign to Maracha's political Spirit. Maracha County has a tradition of political engagement. While competition is natural and vigorous debate is healthy, deliberate violence and the specter of fighting are alien and unacceptable intrusions into our political culture. They stain our community's reputation and undermine the democratic values the your party purports to uphold. We urge you to honor Maracha's heritage of discourse over discord.

It's therefore my hope that both of you will, in the strongest possible terms;

Immediately and publicly restrain your agents by issuing clear, unambiguous, and public directives to ALL your agents, supporters, and campaign teams. Command them categorically to CEASE AND DESIST from any and all forms of violence, intimidation, threats, or physical confrontation. Make it known that such actions are not only illegal but utterly disqualifying in the context of representing the people of Maracha.

Both of you should be able to emphasize peaceful competition by actively promoting a campaign focused on your vision for Maracha, and your service records. Encourage your supporters to engage in respectful debate and to win hearts and minds through persuasion, not force.

I expect that both of you will cooperate for Peace. Demonstrate leadership by jointly committing, perhaps even publicly together, to a peaceful campaign period. Cooperate with security forces and local leaders to ensure the safety of all participants and voters.

The pursuit of leadership should uplift a community, not tear it apart. The NRM flag you're struggling for should be a symbol of service and national vision not planting seeds of division and hatred. The flag should not be won through tactics that bring shame and suffering to Maracha.

I urge you, aspiring brothers Nelson and Drakua, to heed this call. Exercise your authority over your campaigns immediately. Prioritize the safety and dignity of the people you seek to serve above all else. Choose the path of peace, ideas, and respectful competition. The future of Maracha County, and the integrity of processes depend on it.

Sincerely,

A concerned citizen and MP Maracha County
