The district speaker, Rt Hon Wanni Emmanuel has defeated the incumbent LC5 Chairperson Hon Obitre Stephen in Thursday's 24-7-2025 NRM Party Primary Elections held for the position of LC5 Chairperson.

Rt Hon Wanni, who has served for over 15 years as a District Councilor, polled 20,298 votes, followed by the incumbent LC5 Hon Obitre Stephen who polled 10,221 votes, Hon Adripiyo Emmanuel who polled 11,192 votes and Hon Adiga Lawrence Wilfred Ozubia who got 4,623 votes.

While reading out the final tallied results and declaring the winner this night 2:04am, the NRM party district Registrar, Letia Jimmy urged the flag bearer winners in all the elective positions in Maracha District not to over celebrate but rather focus on uniting with their opponents who have lost so that they don't give a chance to opposition candidates to win in the general elections.
"In NRM, we should embrace unity and peace for togetherness and growth of the party", Mr Letia advised.

In June-2025, the NRM Party Secretariat Kampala had duly nominated 4 candidates, Hon Adripiyo Emmanuel (the first LC5 Chairperson of Maracha from 2010 - 2016), Hon Adiga Lawrence Wilfred Ozubia (also former LC5 from 2016 - 2021), Hon Obitre Stephen (incumbent LC5 2021 - 2026) and Rt Hon Wanni Emmanuel (District Speaker) to run in the NRM Party primary elections for LC5 Chairperson position.

The NRM party flag bearer, Rt Hon Wanni Emmanuel is going to face with National Unity Party (NUP) candidate Adriko Fred and Democratic Party (DP) candidate Ayikobua Philliam in the upcoming LC5 Chairperson elections scheduled to take place in February 2026.
