The first LC5 Chairperson for Maracha District, Hon Adripiyo Emmanuel, who served from 2011 to 2016, has on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, expressed his interest and picked a nomination form from the NRM Party Secretariat in Kampala to contest for the position of LC5 Chairperson for Maracha District 2026 - 2031.

Hon Adripiyo, who lost his seat in 2016 to Hon Adiga Lawrence Wilfred Ozubia, contested again for the LC5 Chairperson position in the 2021 general elections, but he was again defeated by Hon Obitre Stephen.

So far, 4 potential candidates who have expressed interest and picked nomination forms from the NRM Party Secretariat Kampala to contest for the Maracha District LC5 Chairperson position under the NRM Party ticket are;

1- Hon Adripiyo Emmanuel who served as the first LC5 Chairperson for the district from 2011 to 2016 and then lost his reelection.

2- Hon Adiga Lawrence Wilfred Ozubia, who served as the LC5 Chairperson from 2016 to 2021, decided to contest for the position of 2021 - 2026 Maracha East Constituency MP seat, and he lost. This time, he is seeking a comeback through the LC5 Chairperson position.

3- Hon Wanni Emmanuel, who has served for 15 years now as the Councilor for Tara Sub-county, and he also doubles as the Speaker for Maracha District council.

4- Hon Obitre Stephen, the incumbent LC5 Chairperson, who is also the Secretary for Finance in Maracha District.

With this number of potential who have shown interests and picked nomination forms, whoever becomes the NRM party flag bearer for LC5 Chairperson position in the upcoming 24-July-2025 NRM Party primary elections, will thereafter proceed to tussle the race with Opposition candidates like Adriko Fred contesting on National Unity Platform (NUP) Party ticket, Ayikobua Philliam contesting on Democratic Party (DP) Party ticket and any other Independent candidate who may show up along the way in the upcoming general elections for Local Government positions in 2026.

For the records, in 2016 general elections for the position of LC5 Chairperson for Maracha District, the then incumbent Hon Adripiyo Emmanuel on NRM party ticket lost after he garnered 9,367 votes.

Adiga Wilfred Lawrence who contested as Independent, won the election after he scored 9,936 votes.

The then district speaker, Hon. Akuma Gillbert Tiondia got 3,886 votes.

And, Mr Yiacia Simple Stanely (Independent) finished the race in the fourth position after he garnered 1,078 votes.

Stay tuned as we shall be covering and reporting news in the party primary election in 2025 and the general elections in 2026 as they unfold.
