(To be read at the burial of Dr. Andi)
To the Family, Friends, People of Maracha & all mourners,
I am deeply sorry I cannot be with you today. Urgent government work has taken me out of the Country, but my heart is with you as we bury Dr. Andi—a man who changed our clan forever. To his family, I ask your forgiveness. A great man like him deserved my presence to give my last salute.
To all who gathered, thank you for wrapping Dr. Andi’s family with love. Your being here shows he didn’t just live—he touched lives. Travel home safely, and may God protect you.
To us who know him personally, we've lost more than an iconic leader. We've lost our light as a community. Dr. Andi started with nothing but faced lives hardtimes with courage. He proved "tough times create strong, successful people."
As we celebrate him, we must stop to ask: who will replace our great heroes?
Where will the next Dr. Andi, Dr. Ajeani, Dr. Enock Lee, Dr. Alidria, or Brig. Wilson Toko come from? We must ask --why are great leaders nolonger emerging from
West Nile anymore? Is it our failing schools? Deep poverty or have we forgotten how to sacrifice for others?
Dear mourners, Dr. Andi’s light hasn’t gone out—it lives on in students he supported and taught to never give up.
It lives on in leaders like myself he mentored to serve others and will on in all who learned from him that "Your poverty is your beginning, not your end."
To us in Maracha, this moment of his demise should remind us to:
- Farm hard while the rains fall—grow food for your families.
- Support poor children and teach a child—especially those with no hope.
- Work hard to be the next Dr. Andi in our schools and communities.
Farmers like Patrick Aia are here to guide us. Poverty, illiteracy and disease are our greatest enemies but together and with resilience we can beat it.
Rest in peace, Dr. Andi.
Your struggles make us stronger. Your dreams are now our mission. We will carry your light forward—for Maracha, for West Nile, for Africa.
With sorrow, gratitude, and determination,
Hon. Oguzu Lee Denis
Member of Parliament, Maracha County
