The Minister of State for Education and Sports (Primary), Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, has expressed disappointment over the complete absence of students from the West Nile sub-region in the latest national merit-based government scholarship intake at Muni University.
“We need to do more in improving learners’ performance,” she stressed. “Let us encourage both girls and boys in West Nile to strive for excellence and secure opportunities at institutions like Muni University instead of waiting to be taken on government merit".
Dr. Kaducu, who also serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Moyo District, revealed that none of the districts in West Nile had a student selected on merit for government sponsorship at the university, despite its location within the region.
“It is sad to hear that in the recent intake of government scholarships on merit at Muni University, no single student was taken from the entire West Nile region,” she said. “We are not practicing any form of segregation—either as the people of West Nile or as a ministry. Our doors remain open to all, regardless of tribe or religion.”
She made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a community gathering at Yumbe Bomah Grounds in Yumbe Town Council.
Dr. Kaducu called for collective efforts to uplift academic standards in the region, urging parents, teachers, and leaders to support learners in achieving better results.
