Eng. Aguta Sam, a staunch NRM Party member and supporter in Maracha Constituency, Maracha District, has decided to contest as an Independent candidate for the Maracha Constituency MP seat in the upcoming 3-February-2026 general election.

During the Friday 4-September-2020 NRM Party primary elections that were held countrywide for the positions of Constituency and District flag bearers for Parliamentary positions, Eng. Aguta Sam garnered 9,818 votes, becoming the Maracha Constituency NRM flag bearer, defeating Mr. Eyotia Justus, who got 4,208 votes.

The Maracha Constituency NRM Party flag bearer for 2021 - 2026, Eng. Aguta Sam lost the MP race to FDC's Hon Oguzu Lee Denis, and below here are the results from the Thursday 14-1-2021 general election results for Maracha Constituency MP race;

Hon Oguzu Lee Denis (FDC) polled 12,496 votes

Eng. Aguta Sam (NRM) polled 5,690 votes

Hon. Aadroa Alex Onzima (Independent) polled 4,866 votes

Mr. Leti Yophas (Independent) polled 336 votes.

The staunch NRM Member and Cadre, Eng. Aguta Sam's decision to contest as an Independent candidate as he has also gone ahead to design his poster as an Independent candidate for the upcoming 3-February-2026 general election leaves the ground for only two candidates Mr. Uhuru Nelson and Mr. Obeta Moses to battle in the upcoming NRM Party primary election scheduled to take place between July, August, and September 2025, and thereafter the winner from the NRM party primary election will go and face with the FDC's Hon Oguzu Lee Denis, Independent candidate Eng. Aguta Sam, plus some other potential candidates who will show their interest in contesting for the Maracha Constituency MP seat 2026 - 2031.

When contacted about the poster which is designed as Independent with "Clock" as the symbol, Eng. Aguta Sam responded that the period for the NRM party primary campaign and election period between July, August, and September 2025 will get him too busy and taken away by his other personal obligations.

Going by the 14,020 votes from the Friday 4-September-2020 NRM party primary election results and the 23,388 votes from the Thursday 14-1-2021 general election results in Maracha Constituency, the big task ahead of Eng. Aguta Sam remains, how he will be able to convince more than 23,000 voters, let alone convincing more than 14,000 NRM Party voters to vote for him to become the MP for Maracha Constituency 2026 - 2031.
