Kawthar mosque, formed in 1960, which is the biggest mosque in Koboko District, has on Friday 25-10-2024 been handed over to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council leadership in Koboko after 10 years.
The controversy on Kawthar mosque which has lasted for 10 years now, has been between some Muslims belonging to the Kibuli faction who allegedly took over the mosque management with its assets and bank account.
One of the founders of the mosque, Sheik Ayume Muhammad Nisakari, who communicated to the congregation the message of handing over Kawthar mosque to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, appealed to the Mufti, HIS Eminence Sheik Ramathan Mubajje, to appoint for them a new District Khadi who can mentor the people in the district.
He pledged to inculcate love and unite both factions to become one people in one faith under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

A member in the interim administrative management of Kawthar Mosque, Acidri Yassin Agele, said they are going to invite the Mufti, HIS Eminence Sheik Ramathan Mubajje, to come and officially grace the handover ceremony.
Saidi Abash, a Muslim in Koboko, while celebrating the handover of Kawthar Mosque to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for creating a peaceful environment in Uganda that has enabled so many things, including freedom of worship.

The Chairperson for the Inquiry Committee for Kawthar mosque, Mr. Duki Bran, said it was the clandestine way of managing Kawthar mosque Koboko that prompted them to push aside the Kibuli Muslim factions who had taken over the mosque for 10 years.
