I treasure this moment to pen an opinion about my experience in working with Mr Okiswa Geofrey, the outgoing RDC of Arua District. Mr Okiswa, who was transfered and started working in Arua District on 18-November-2022 until 19-August-2024 he got transferred to Alebtong District during a Countrywide reshuffling of RDCs on 19-August-2024. WHY THE TRANSFER OF MR OKISWA GEOFREY IS A PAIN TO MANY. Mr Okiswa Geoffrey, a very transparent public servant, when he came to Arua District, he didn't only befriend his colleagues at work place but he went beyond miles to befriend people outside of his profession and duty station. To me and my colleagues in the Media, if there was a day Mr Okiswa Geofrey turned down any of us from interviewing or covering him, it's a lie. Even if how sen...

Opinion: Corruption presents a significant societal challenge in Uganda, affecting all sectors without regard to political affiliation, religious beliefs or tribal identity - By Dramani Collins, Assistant RDC Maracha.

📸: Dramani Collins, Assistant RDC. Courtesy Photo. Corruption is a pervasive issue that transcends the boundaries of political affiliation, religion, and ethnicity, affecting societies across the globe. It manifests in various forms, including bribery, embezzlement, fraud, and favouritism, and its impacts are felt in every corner of civic life.  The insidious nature of corruption undermines trust in institutions, erodes the rule of law, and stifles economic development, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality. At its core, corruption compromises the integrity of governance. When public officials engage in corrupt practices, they prioritize personal gain over the welfare of the citizens they serve.  This betrayal of trust not only disenfranchises communities but also creates an environment where accountability is diminished. Citizens may feel powerless, leading to apathy and disillusionment with the political process. Each political party, regardless of its ideology, is ...

#iip_law 📸: Hon Musa Ecweru, State Minister for Works and Transport. Gov’t has tabled the Engineering Professionals Bill, 2024 in which it is seeking to regulate and impose Code of Conduct for both Engineers & Technologists in Uganda, with a proposed jail term for 2years or fine of Shs1M or both, for anyone who passes off as an Engineer or Technologist, or practices without a valid license.
