Landlord Who Offered Land to Host Refugees in Yumbe District Killed, His Children Displaced and Animals Looted in a Land Wrangle.

A Land Conflict in Bolomoni Village, Otakua Parish, Odravu West Sub-county in Yumbe District has left dead the landlord who voluntarily gave land in 2016 to host refugees, Mr Luka Akile Fendru shot with arrow on 19-8-2024 and his entire family thrown into huge losses after a group of attackers of over 60 people from Oluba Langi Clan in Ariwa Sub-county and Kulikulinga Town Council demolished their houses in Odravu West Sub-county and looted their animals, moniescrops and also burnt their houses.

The bloody brawl that was sparked off between Luka Akile Fendru family 🆚️ Sulaiman Karube Dudu / Oluba Langi clan claim belongs to them, whereas the forefathers and families of Mr Luka Akile Fendru lived peacefully on the 600 acres land for over 100 years until 2022 when Mr Suleiman began claiming part of it.

According to the family members who are the victims of the attack, the land conflict on Monday 19-August-2024 left their father Mr Luka Akile Fendru dead after he was shot with arrow, the attack displaced 68 members of their extended family, the attackers also burnt a total of 13 houses, looted 120 goats, 84 sheeps, 15 heads of cattle, 2 motorcycles, smartphones and 4 million shs cash money.

One of the Sons of the murdered landlord Luka Akile Fendru, Mr Okulega Fendru Gasper who was shot on the leg by the attackers said, the bloody situation displaced their entire extended family members with children who have now dropped out of school.

He added that, the deadly approach by those who are using force to claim the land, has left the entire family of Luka Akile Fendru living in fear because several different cases they reported to police for assistance was all in vain.

Bolomoni Village LC1 Chairman Mr Romano Apeku whose houses were burnt and animals taken away after he had gone in the morning of that fateful day 19-August-2024 to report to police the chaotic land wrangle, said, the already charged relatives of Sulaiman Karube Dudu followed him upto police and started attacking him on accusations that, he always supports Mr Luka Akile Fendru in the land Wrangle.

Another son of the assassinated Landlord, Mr Fendru A. Robert, a Health Worker at Bolomoni Health Centre III who said they resorted to running away for their lives, described the attack against their family as “Hell on Earth”.

Toko Geofrey, another attacked victim that fled into Terego District through a panya route stressed that, they are now homeless and stranded due to demolition of their houses and looted animals.

Some documents we obtained indicates that, the family of Luka Akile Fendru, for several times reported to police, cases of Assault, Destruction of Crops and Trespass on their land by Mr Suleiman Karube Dudu and his relatives but to date no investigation yielded to arrests or prosecutions.
