The refugees settling in Bolomoni Village, Otakua Parish in Odravu West Sub-county, Yumbe District are now living in fear due to a land wrangle on Monday 19-August-2024 between Oluba Langi clan and Oluba iyiba clan which left three people dead after they were shot with arrows.
During the land Wrangle in Bolomoni village on 19-August-2024 where the attackers who went for the attack looted over 100 animals belonging to the Landlord who offered land for settlement of refugees in 2016, Mr Luka Akile Fendru who got shot dead with arrow during the conflict, refugees in the area equally became victims of circumstance after some of their animals were taken away by the attackers.
The Refugee Welfare Council (RWC) Chairperson 2 for Village 8, 9 and village 10 camp in Zone 4 refugee settlement, Mr Asiki Michael who regretted the land conflict attack said, 8 animals belonging to his refugee community were also looted during the incident on Monday 19-August-2024.
After the bloody fight between the conflicting parties in the land matter, some of the refugees who ran away for safety in Imvepi Refugee settlement were days later returned back by the office of OPM and UNHCR, Mr Asiki noted.
Nyangoma Denis, a Health Worker at Bolomoni Health Centre III in Bolomoni Village, the village where the attack took place stated that, 4 sheeps belonging to him were taken away during the scuffle.
A refugee in Village 9, Zone 4 in Bolomoni Village, Mr Bita John expressed worry that, they as refugees are now living in fear since they ran away from South Sudan because of war and again here in the settlement camp in Bolomoni Village, Yumbe District, they are experiencing the same fights and killings.
He appealed for government intervention to resolve such problems amongst the host communities so that, they as refugees can live in peace but not in fear.
The land conflict which has caused so many houses to be burnt, animals looted and three people killed, has still not been resolved by the concerned stakeholders.
