Red Cross Uganda officials together with Technical and Political officials from Arua District have on Tuesday 11-June-2024 monitored motorized water project in Ayiko village, Ayayia Parish in Ajia Sub-county.
The project worth 900 million shs contracted to Cornerstone Design and Engineering Company Ltd is funded by Netherland Red Cross through Uganda Red Cross with the contract during of two months.
Ecodu Michael, the Red Cross Project manager said, Ayayia parish was chosen to benefit from the project, based on needs assessment which they carried as an NGO.
The contractor of the project, Eng Michael Ssegona assured the stakeholders that, he will complete the construction work aroubd this coming weekend, a statement which generated worry from the officials who went for the monitoring as the work on ground currently stands at around 80%.
Patrick Odongo, the Arua District water officer said, Arua District local government had spent 48 million shs to start up the project before it partnered with Red Cross to implement it.
He stressed optimism that, the facility, if fully completed and commissioned at the end of June 2024, will improve access to safe water coverage in Arua District.
Arua District RDC Mr Okiswa Geoffrey described the selection of Ajia Sub-county to benefit in that water project as the best choice.
Mr Okiswa who expressed his discomfort over the delay in completion of the project stated that, in order to avoid shoddy work, they sat in a joint meeting with the stakeholders involved and they all agreed to have the project completion extended by 14 days but not by 7 days as the contractor had assured them.
This project which is designed to last for 20 years, if completed, will supply areas comprising of Four villages namely: Ayayia, Ayiko, Aya Alivu and Biachichi all in Ayayia parish with roughly population of about 3100 people.
