Maracha District Council Passes Resolution to Charge 10,000 Shs Each on Loan Applicants.

The District Executive Committee (DEC) members and District councilors of Maracha District have passed a resolution to charge 10,000 Shs as clearance fees on each loan applicant who is a Maracha District local government employee seeking to process a loan from financial institutions.

The resolution was passed during the 3rd ordinary council sitting of the 3rd session of the 3rd council on Thursday 22-2-2024, in which the council members unanimously agreed to the resolution brought to the council by the District Executive Committee (DEC) members.

The LC5 Vice Chairperson for Maracha District Hon Asea Bosco who is also the councilor representing people of Agaii town council to the district council moved the motion to present, debate and approve the District Executive Committee (DEC) report on the loan charge.

The councilor for Oleba Sub-county, Hon Atiku Robert welcomed the move and urged the district council to continue identifying more areas that can be identified and taxed to generate local revenue.

He however decried district's delay to tax stone quarrying and sand mining by residents, which he said is not directly benefiting Maracha District.

Hon Grace Asibazuyo the councilor representing people of Alikua and Yivu Sub-county, to the district council expressed her aforethought excitement on the proposed loan charge.

She gleefully said that she fully trusts and has confidence in the person who will be incharge of collecting this money.

Hon Obitre Stephen, the LC5 Chairperson for Maracha District urged people to embrace and own the decision of the council rather than running around the district to politicize it.

The speaker for Maracha District who presided over the council sitting, Rt Hon Wanni Emmanuel warned the general public not to dare attacking any council member or the district on Social Media over a decision that has been taken and agreed on by the district council.

Upon asking if any member of the district council is aggrieved over the resolution, the Speaker asked them to pass it.

According to the District Executive Committee (DEC) report over the matter, it's a program they learned and copied during a benchmarking tour they traveled for recently in Buikwe District and Arua District Local Government.
