Six teachers and an invigilator have been arrested on allegations of engaging in examination malpractice during a Biology practical paper on Thursday, 19th October 2023.

According to UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Kalule-Musamba’s press statement issued today, 23rd October, 2023, the arrested teachers are all of Nampita Secondary School in Yumbe district.

Meanwhile, the invigilator was one sent to supervise examinations in the same school.

The group is charged with possession of unauthorised material and disturbance in an examination room.

The seven include; Obbo Julius Caeser, a teacher of Economics, Angukoru Josephine, a teacher of Biology, Ntibiringirwa Boniface, Wasswa Godwin, Bamukabire James, Okello Emmanuel, and Sadam Hussein, all teachers of Napita S.S., together with an invigilator, Oryema Bosco.

It is alleged that on Thursday October 19th, while examinations were underway, the suspects accessed the examination hall with power banks, smart phones and a laptop under the pretext of charging them, an act which was very suspicious to the scout, causing her to report to police.

Initial investigations indicate that the smart phone for one of the teachers, Obbo Julius Ceaser contained answers for the biology practical examination.

This brings the number of arrested teachers and invigilators to eleven so far. Earlier last week, Uneb arrested two head teachers.

In Nagalama, police arrested the Headmaster of St’ Paul Mukasa S.S in Kalagi for electronic sharing of information purported to be a UNEB Examination paper.

In Mitooma, a Swahili teacher of Kanyabwanga Secondary School, Dominic Tumusiime has been arrested for sharing an image purported to be an examination paper for Biology practical 2023.
