The Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) which is a Government of Uganda financed programme launched on 24-1-2014 and designed as one of the interventions of Government in response to the high unemployment rate and poverty among the youth in the country, has made some Youths in Maracha District to run to Exile.

The LC V Chairperson Hon Obitre Stephen while presenting Maracha District state of affairs address report in the 1st Ordinary Council Sitting of the 3rd session of the 3rd Council on Friday 29-9-2023, decried the behavior of the Youths who have fled to exile after borrowing the YLP funds.
He appealed to them to come back to the district so that these issues can be resolved.

Maracha District female Youth Councilor Hon Sarah Amazi blamed government policy that was in place that time which grouped the Youths from 15 to 30 in a group, which she said, became very difficult to be manageable.
Hon Amazi said, the District Youth council recently sat for a meeting and passed a resolution to recover these monies from the defaulters as she affirmed their commitment of taking the programme seriously.
Objectives of the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP).
The Programme Development Objective (PDO) is to empower the target youth to harness their socio-economic potential and increase self-employment opportunities and income levels.
Specific Objectives:
To provide youth with marketable vocational skills and tool kits for self-employment and job creation.
To provide financial support to enable the youth establish Income Generating Activities (IGAs).
To provide the youth with entrepreneurship and life skills as an integral part of their livelihoods.
To provide youth with relevant knowledge and information for attitudinal change (positive mind set change).
