National Council of Sports (NCS) Pledges to Improve Sports Activities in WestNile Region and Uganda at Large.

The Uganda National Council of Sports has on monday 26-6-2023 organised stakeholders engagement meeting with LC V Chairpersons, DEOs, CAOs and Sports officers in Westnile region in order to digest problems and solutions as far as sports activities are concerned.
Arua district chairperson for social services Hon Natalia Drateru vented her frustration on how government is ignoring sports champions from WestNile region, like Mrs Inzikuru Dorcus who is now abandoned by government after making Uganda proud worldwide.
She said, several promises made by government for WestNile region and Mrs Inzikuru Dorcus during her glorious years of World champion, have remained as a nightmare.
Hon Natalia pleaded to National Council of Sports to also help make some follow-ups on these issues.
The LC V Chairperson for Zombo District Hon James Oyoloruna thanked NCS for organizing first of its kind stakeholders engagement meeting to enlighten them as leaders on issues pertaining sports activities.
He appealed to NCS to materialise its promises of supporting local governments through establishment of stadiums.
The deputy resident commissioner for Arua District Mr Ezama Ham Mizamil affirmed to NCS that, the people of WestNile region entirely love sports and that is why some of them spoke with a German during the meeting.
He castigated NCS over what he said, is alleged to be a level of bias exhibited by the council through relegating some of the teams from the Westnile region without quantifying them.
To ensure there is transparency in selection of teams that qualify for national tournaments, Mr Ezama Ham advised council to have regional representatives from all the regions in the country to be part of the committee which selects teams that qualify for national and international sports tournaments.
Madi Okollo district RDC Mr Toko Swaibu said, people in WestNile region have been nursing their frustrations quietly as far issues of sports are concerned and it's upon the National Council of Sports to take their frustrations, problems and expectations in good faith in order to work upon.
He cautioned DEOs not to frustrate some schools from participating in sports tournaments, noting that, in the current World, sports is not only an entertainment but also an employment
The Administrative Secretary / Technical officer for NCS, Mrs Annie Nankya proposed to district local governments to form vibrant district sports councils to address gaps in sports activities and also to bridge communication gap between districts and National Council of Sports (NCS).
Mr Ivan Mugowa the Senior administrative Secretary / Technical for NCS reechoed the major objectives of this engagement meeting which focuses on revitalizing sports sector and also to visit sports facilities in the region, one of which is Barifa stadium.
Key resolutions from the meeting are;
1. NCS should regulate sports activities.
2. NCS to have elections.
3. Districts to network with NCS.
4. NCS should promote sports in the whole country but not only in central region.
5. Frequent (yearly) meetings with NCS and Districts.
6. All local governments should form district sports councils in order to regulate sports activities.
