Teachers, workers and local leaders are worried over a kitchen block worth 60 million shs at Ajia Secondary School in Ajia Sub-county, Arua District which was constructed by Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) under Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP) without approval of Arua District engineering department.
Mr Simon Arionzi the procurement officer for the project said, their high expectations to have a complete kitchen facility with some rooms, vanished after they saw the contractor coming up with such kind of a shade.
Senior woman teacher for Ajia Secondary School Mrs Eyotaru Margaret who doubles as the treasurer for the project expressed her disappointment with the construction design and said, she even raised a concern to DRDIP engineer over it but she was overruled by the Engineer who asked her, "Where have you ever seen rain drip into the house through the window ?".
Mrs Eyotaru noted that, before the construction work neared completion, it rained and dripped into the house, making workers brought by DRDIP Engineer to fled to a safer house on the School compound.
The councilor representing people of Ajia Sub-county to the district council, Hon Cosmas Ayikobua said the project was supposed to be implemented in the last financial year but due to the suspension of a staff incharge of procurement (IP) in office of the Prime Minister, the project duration elapsed henceforth resulting into these kinds of issues.
Secretary for works and social services, Hon Luiji Candini decried the design and work plan implemented on ground without involvement of the concerned stakeholders.
He has tasked DRDIP Engineer to interface with district leaders to address the way forward before the facility is fully completed and commissioned for usage.
Ajia Secondary School is a community based school founded in 2007 by former Works Minister, late Hon Andruale Awuzu.
