ARUA CITY POLICE RESCUES A MAN FROM ANGRY PEOPLE WHO FORCEFULLY DEMANDED A FINE (KASURUBE) FOR THEIR DAUGHTER 

The territorial police of Arua Central Business Division rescued a man from angry people who  found their daughter with the man in Savella Palace Lodge, in Arua City. On the 23rd May 2023 at about 3:00pm at Arua CPS, the OC Station ASP Jokkende Julius received information of a man who had been unlawfully confined and forcefully being demanded Kasurube (a fine) after having been got with a student at Savella Palace Lodge in Arua city. 'Kasurube' is a cultural fine paid by a man for unlawfully having had sexual intercourse with a lady. A team of officers responded with a patrol car and rescued the man, and brought him to Arua CPS with the student.

Upon interrogation of the two, it was established that the rescued man was called Gulume Abdullah male adult aged 25yrs, a musoga by tribe a butcherman and resident of Tanganyika central Arua city. It was also established that the Lady was identified as Rashida aged 22 yrs a student of Nursing and midwifery at Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing. According to both of them, they were got in Savella Palace lodge while seated and they had not had sexual inter course.

Since the student was above 18yrs, her relatives were explained the circumstances under which the man could not be charged legally since both were mature and had consent of meeting, Both parties were sensitized and asked to amicably reconcile out of police.

On the same day the rescued man, Gulume Abdullah opened up an assault case on him by the relatives of the girl who arrested and beat him up while demanding a fine (Kasurube) forcefully. Inquiries into the case of Assault continue under Arua City Central Police Station Diary Reference 42/23/05/2023.

Police in Arua district are investigating a case of assault and threatening violence involving the Member of Parliament for Ayivu West Constituency John Lematia and James Ariko, a DSTV technician in Arua city.
