New BrutePrint Attack Lets Attackers Unlock Smartphones with Fingerprint Brute-Force.

By THN. Researchers have discovered an inexpensive attack technique that could be leveraged to brute-force fingerprints on smartphones to bypass user authentication and seize control of the devices. The approach, dubbed BrutePrint, bypasses limits put in place to counter failed biometric authentication attempts by weaponizing two zero-day vulnerabilities in the smartphone fingerprint authentication (SFA) framework. The flaws, Cancel-After-Match-Fail (CAMF) and Match-After-Lock (MAL), leverage logical defects in the authentication framework, which arises due to insufficient protection of fingerprint data on the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) of fingerprint sensors. The result is a "hardware approach to do man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks for fingerprint image hijacking," researchers Yu Chen and Yiling He said in a research paper. "BrutePrint acts as a middleman between fingerprint sensor and TEE [Trusted Execution Environment]." The goal, at its core,

New Stealthy Bandit Stealer Targeting Web Browsers and Cryptocurrency Wallets.

By THN. A new stealthy information stealer malware called  Bandit Stealer  has caught the attention of cybersecurity researchers for its ability to target numerous web browsers and cryptocurrency wallets. "It has the potential to expand to other platforms as Bandit Stealer was developed using the Go programming language, possibly allowing cross-platform compatibility," Trend Micro  said  in a Friday report. The malware is currently focused on targeting Windows by using a legitimate command-line tool called  runas.exe  that allows users to run programs as another user with different permissions. The goal is to escalate privileges and execute itself with administrative access, thereby effectively bypassing security measures to harvest wide swathes of data. That said, Microsoft's access control mitigations to prevent unauthorized execution of the tool means an attempt to run the malware binary as an administrator requires providing the necessary credentials. WHAT TO DO IF YOU BUY A ‘FAKE’ THING ?.

By BarefootLawyers. Earlier, we told you about Nakku who wanted to buy a 32inch Samsung TV, but she ended up buying a "salamsung" instead of a Samsung. Her husband specifically wanted something they could use for Netflix, and their favourite shows in “Full HD”. The seller has refused to take it back because “goods once sold are not returnable” and it was cheaper.   WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? When a person wants to buy something and they rely on the skill and expertise of the seller to get them the ‘best’ for a particular purpose, then the seller must make sure that what they sell is fit for the purpose of the buyer and fits their description. Since Nakku made it clear that she wanted a Samsung, and it should be able to play her Netflix and her favourite shows and movies, she should have been given this. It is not enough for the seller to say she saw the label and took it especially when it was a confusing label. As it turns out the TV is not fit for Nakku’s purpose. W

DID YOU KNOW THAT IMITATION IS ILLEGAL IN BUSINESS ?.

By BarefootLawyers.  Nakku has finally saved enough money to buy a 32inch TV. When she reached kikuubo in downtown Kampala, the first shop she saw had a tv playing the video of her favourite song. Nakku saw the label and saw the familiar logo of Samsung. She quickly paid her 400k and went home.  Her husband was furious when he returned to find that she had brought home a “salamsung”. Now they want to know if it is even legal to be tricked like this or it is “goods once sold are not returnable”.   WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? When a person makes their products look like yours or tells the public that you are ok with the products that they are selling, this is a form of imitation that the law does not allow. This is called “Passing off”. This is because such imitation deceives and confuses customers who may end up buying the wrong product thinking it is something else.  For example, Nakku really thought she had bought a Samsung tv because of the blue Samsung logo that easily decei

SOMEONE IS STEALING MY CUSTOMERS WITH FAKE LOTION.

By BarefootLawyers. Nsubuga’s business is in trouble. One of his rivals keeps taking his lotions and changing the labels so that they are sold as his own. He even caught them pretending to explain the difference between ‘their lotion’ and his own. He wants to do know what the law says about this, because he does not want to just burn their stolen products and get into trouble. WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY? In business, customers sometimes buy things because of the brand or label on those things. For example, you are likely to buy a shoe from a well known brand. This is why the law protects a business’s name or label on their products to avoid confusion among the customers who may pick up the wrong product unknowingly. This protection is known as a trademark. It is given to any symbol, word, colour, phrase that allows people to easily identify that product. When someone gets a product and puts labels belonging to another business like Nsubuga’s without Nsubuga’s permission, it is k
