24-August-2022.

Below here are the excerpts from the Facebook Account of Hon Oshino Rashid, Councillor representing Bazaar Ward in Central Division Arua City.

………………………………………………………………………..…..………………………………………

Arua city this morning,,Last evening 23-8-2022 Heavy down pour in Westnile destroyed properties worth millions the worst affected was Gurua cell Bazaar Ward.

Where 24 house holds were affected, people's items and food were washed as a result about 200 people slept hungry,,

I want to thank The area youths for the quick emergency exercise they offered to the vulnerable people, the pregnancy, the elderly and the children.

I also want to thank the DPC Arua central and Red cross Arua for the efforts they made to minimize the hazard created by disaster, we thank God that no life Lost.

The flooding in Gurua cell Bazaar Ward was basically Engineering disaster which is man made and such happens due to negligence, error in engineering which leads to improper selection of materials and sites, as such debris was supplied 2 weeks ago and poured on Lumumba road which blocked the available installed culverts that later led to flooding.

Due to unethical behavior the flood has exposed infrastructures such as roads and buildings to more risks of structural damage, wearing out and aging quickly thus increasing maintainance costs,

The people of Gurua immidiately need food relief such that affected families can recover and return to normal,

Gurua Drainage must properly be built as a mitigation measure,

Lumumba road must quickly be worked on Infact today because the debris poured can still cause more serious risks if it rains again today,,
