DID YOU EVER THINK THAT THE BIBLE IS KINDA LIKE THE HISTORY OF HOW LAWS WORK?

We have all heard the story of Adam and Eve. If you haven’t, then banange, go to church (the online one or radio kind). Anyway, in that story about the first couple, God told Adam that you could eat ANYTHING from the Garden of Eden but just don’t eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (We would like to know what that fruit looks like). We know how the rest of the story goes; the snake tempted Eve who ate the fruit and gave some to Adam, who also ate, and they both realized that they were naked and so on and so forth.

WHAT LEGAL LESSONS CAN YOU GET FROM THE STORY OF ADAM AND EVE?

Fair Hearing:

Even God (who sees all and knows all), knew that Adam and Eve had eaten the ‘wrong’ fruit, gave them a fair hearing. He still asked, “Adam, where are you? What happened?” And Adam was given a chance to state his case before God. (Although he probably needed a lawyer to plead on his behalf) Spouses as witnesses The second lesson we can easily derive from this story is how spouses are used as witnesses against each other. Well, in this story we can see Adam just saying, “aaah, this woman you gave me did it” But in the courts of law, when a case has been brought before the courts, the court cannot force your spouse to give evidence against you.

Fairness of justice.

The third lesson we learn is about the fairness of justice. Eve got the fruit first and ate it. She shared it with Adam who also allowed to eat it. They were all punished for breaking the law, even the snake that the devil had used was punished too. The criminal law punishes those who do a wrong thing, incite others to do and those who also follow in the wrong steps. If you know it is wrong and still do it, you cannot claim to be innocent. By the way, after sentencing the court still gives you a chance to ask for a lenient punishment. But of course, that (Cain and Abel) story is for another day, so look out for it.
