Am Not Yet Married, Sexy Kampala City Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanzura Elaborates.

A political activist and Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, on Friday shared her life story on NTV and Spark TV programme “Mwasuze Mutya”.

This is the story:

I was born in Kyenjojo District in 1989 and I am the first born to my father but third born on my mother’s side. Most people think I am a Mukiga but I am actually a Mutooro.

In P.1 I became a class monitor and in P.6 I stood for deputy head girl but I was defeated .The school recognized my passion for leadership and gave me the post of time keeper.

My dad was a strict man so I didn’t want to join Nyakasura School for secondary. I joined Kyebamabe Girls School. Two weeks later, there was a strike against the administration and I was a part of it. It was my first demonstration.

My mum was from a humble background and she lived in a mud and wattle house. She was a prayerful woman who used to sell bushera (porridge) and snacks for a living. My mum is a brave person because she did not look back when she left her marriage.

In Kyebambe, I was a class monitor from S.1 to S.3 and later upgraded to dorm prefect. At school, I sneaked in a small radio and I used to listen to political shows during ‘dankes’. I used to support Manchester United (ManU) and I made a scrapbook of all he ManU players.

When Kizza Besigye came onto the scene in 2001, I was in P.6 and I saw his campaign poster at a shop. I was intrigued because it was a new face and I took down the poster and took it home. It was at that point that I decided to support Besigye.

In S.5, I joined Masheruka girls school and that’s where I adopted the name FDC preacher. To set my uniform apart from the others, I wrote FDC in huge red letters which angered some teachers. I studied Arts in A level and I got 15 points.

When I joined campus in 2009, I started looking for FDC supporters among freshers and registered them. We formed an FDC Makerere chapter, conducted elections and I became the secretary.

In my 2nd year, I was appointed the vice guild president. In my final year, I wrote a book with my friend and we went to Constitutional Square to launch it. I was arrested and that’s when most people got to know me. They took me to court for inciting violence and from there I was remanded and sent to Luzira.

In Luzira, I was castigated for supporting Besigye. Two weeks later, my lawyer got me a production warrant and I went to court. My dad was there with his LC1 letter to stand bail alongside Hon Nandala Mafabi. That afternoon I went and sat for my paper.

I had just concluded the KCCA speaker race when I was appointed Deputy Lord Mayor. It was a surprise to me. Lord Mayor (Erias Lukwago) is my mentor and I have learned a lot from him. We fight for the down trodden and demand accountability.

I am not married but I am in a relationship. I have a 6-year-old daughter who I had in 2015. I had just finished campus and I was arrested 4 times when I was pregnant. When Dr. Besigye came to see me in hospital, he was shocked.
