ITURI PROVINCE DRC; Over 1200 People in Aru - DRC have Received Their First Doze of AstraZeneca Vaccine.

One thousand two hundred and fifty people have already received their first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 in the territory of Aru, in the province of Ituri.

This figure is the balance sheet of five days of "vaccination campaign", started on Saturday, June 19, which takes place in 14 health zones.

According to local sources, dozens of people are heading in waves, to the installed sites, to in turn receive the vaccine against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Among those vaccinated, Radio Okapi met, Polydore Remo, 58 years of age. He said he had felt "no negative effects" related to the vaccine.

David Tchukia, the chief of the Kakwa chiefdom, who has also been vaccinated, encourages the population to follow his example.
For him, this is the only way out to face this disease which has already claimed lives in his entity and in neighboring Uganda.

The chief medical officer of the Expanded Vaccination Program of the Aru territory, Dr Faustin Arionzi, affirms that "cross-border traffic is very intense between the DRC and Uganda where positive cases are on the rise". .

He indicates that the territory of Aru has received 6,500 doses of vaccine.
But Antoine Mopepe of Zaki civil society, fears that this quantity is not sufficient, given the enthusiasm of the population who rushes to receive the vaccine.

This campaign benefits from the financial and logistical support of the international NGO Maltezer.
