Government to Send Cash Money to those Affected by Covid-19 Lockdown, as Second Wave of the Pandemic Hits the Country.


Government of Uganda will  give Monetary Support, not food, to vulnerable people during the 42-day lockdown that was enforced on 18 June 2021, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has announced.

The money to be sent to to beneficiaries through Mobile Money is expected to help those who have been working hand to mouth and other vulnerable people affected by the lockdown.

On 18 June 2021, President Museveni announced stricter measures to contain the current wave of Covid-19, banning transport and closing businesses.

A total of 49,327 out of the 70,176 COVID-19 confirmed cases have recovered, the health ministry data shows.

A total of 626 people have succumbed to the virus ever since the first case in March last year.

“Results of COVID-19 tests done on June 17, 2021 confirmed 1,397 new cases. The cumulative confirmed cases are 70,176. There were 42 new deaths and 1,015 active cases in hospitals,” the health ministry announced.

According to the health ministry, 42 deaths were registed yesterday June 19, 42 on June 18, 34 on June 17, while 49 deaths were reported on June 16.

A total of 821,659 Ugandans have been vaccinated so far.

On June 16, Uganda received another batch of 175,200 AstraZeneca vaccines, and it is expecting 688,000 mores doses.

According to President Yoweri Museveni, Uganda government plans to vaccinate at least 4.8 million people before the COVID-19 preventive measures are relaxed.
