Military and regular police have arrested over 20 students of Makerere university who were protesting tuition increment.
The university council last year approved a 15 percent cumulative increment for five years.
After five years, each student will be required to pay 75 percent more.
Led by their Guild Vice President Judith Nalukwago, students on Tuesday morning tried to march to the President’s office to petition President Museveni to scrap the policy.
The army and police quickly intercepted them outside the university the gate and dispersed them before arresting the ring leaders.
According to Nalukwago, those who increased the tuition have their children studying outside this country.
“Some of us are here selling our bodies to get tuition. Mr President, please halt this policy and relieve us from selling our bodies,” she is quoted by media as saying.
The students are currently detained at Wandegeya police station pending investigations.

The dispersed students later marched to Wandegeya police station and camped in the compound.
They demanded for the release of their colleagues.
Makerere University Vice chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe advised students to stop de- campaigning the tuition policy because it was approved by the university council.
