President Museveni: We Demarcated Crime Preventers To Act As Reserve Army Force at the Same Time Working Voluntarily With The Police in Curbing Crimes In Uganda.
However, government could not turn them into employees because of the limited financial resources.
But President Museveni, who was addressing crime preventers’ coordinators from various districts on Thursday, said government would help support them from where they are to improve on their welfare through Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (Saccos.)
“Form Saccos based on skill; if there are engineers in this group, they can form a company and we support them at the district level,” he said.
At the same function, the President also launched the National Wealth Creators Union, which aims at representing, promoting, assisting and sustaining the crime preventer Saccos, as well as mobilise for financial and non-financial activities.
According to the National Chairperson of Crime Preventers, Kamugisha Blaise, the Union was a result of the advice from the President who had encouraged them to be exemplary wealth creators. He also noted that Saccos formed were not only for savings but to also create jobs.
