Minister Anite Evelyn While Presiding Over The Signing Of a Memorandum Of Understanding Between The Leaders Of WestNile Cooperative Union And The Officials Of Glovag-Agri Organisation 20 September 2019.
I am very glad to have presided over the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the leaders of West Nile Cooperative Union and the officials of Glovag-Agri which is aimed at promoting commercial food crop production in West Nile.
The 30 years partnership was signed at the union's headquarters at Wandi trading centre in Katrini sub county, Arua district.
During the function, the over 30, 000 farmers affiliated to the union vowed to abondon tobacco production which was monopolized by the BAT and instead start planting crops like sorghum, maize, ground nuts, simsim and soya beans on commercial basis courtesy of the new company.
I thank the farmers for taking this decision which is in line with President Yoweri Museveni's continued appeal for the people of West Nile to stop growing tobacco.
I also thank Joel Aita, the main brain behind the Glovag-Agri company which will support these farmers in market linkage, seed provision and inputs.
On my part, I will try my best to follow up the farmers' request for tractors and trucks from the government as well as pushing for the compensation of the union's properties which were destroyed during the war that ushered in this government to power. Mr. chairman I also pray that you can mobilize us MPs of West Nile to meet with the 20 thousand farmers.
