Keeping alive, the Memories of my Suffering People and a Failing Government under the Rulership of Dictator Museveni.
I wrote this article a few years ago and it shared it in November 2016 when Isingiro and some parts of WestNile region were starving. I hear they are still dying with their cows. Let them eat cake or monkey and get Ebola.
Here we go.............
=====
For about four months now, some regions of Uganda have been experiencing severe draught and subsequent famine. The most affected area is the semi-arid Cattle Corridor that stretches from Isingiro district at the southern border with Tanzania through Mbarara, some parts of Buganda and across Lake Kyoga to Teso and Karamoja regions and as well some parts of westnile region. This calamity was expected but the regime made no efforts to devise means of averting it. First is was Teso and Karamoja regions where famine was widely deported to be killing some people. The media vigorously highlighted the calamity but unfortunately regime made no efforts to intervene in spite of the fact that even the Minister of Disaster Preparedness, Musa Echweru hails from Teso sub region. Interestingly not even the area Members of Parliament rises the necessary alarm to highlight the problem.
Now that the same calamity has showed up in WestNile Region and Isingiro where both people and animals are devastatingly hungry, the regime is waking up to deliver food aid. According to Minister Musa Echweru, food aid is to be delivered to Isingiro first and then some parts of Mbabara district before heading to Teso and Karamoja. For the case of Isingiro and Mbarara, the ministry is to liaise with the Minister of Animal Husbandry who hails from Isingiro to intervene for the animals. In West Nile region, the famine is reportedly so severe that locals are stealthily sending their children to the Sudanese refugee camps posing as Sudanese refuges so as to access relief food supplies by WFP.
Some years back when a similar famine hit Teso sub region, the then Minister of Disaster Preparedness, Prof. Tarsus Kabwegyere advised the people there to eat grass, mangoes and insects. Had Isingiro district not been affected, when was the regime intending to come to the rescue of famine prone North-Eastern region?
Oh Uganda, May God uphold thee!
