Our Lives begin to end the day we become silent on issues that matter. The penal code act is a law enacted to bite the poor and the powerless Ugandans.
Under section 138 of the Act, “prostitute” means a person who, in public or elsewhere, regularly or habitually holds himself or herself out as available for sexual intercourse (political manipulation and deal making?—emphasis mine) or other sexual gratification (such as lifting term limits?) for monetary or other material gain, and “prostitution” shall be construed accordingly. At this rate I hope you won’t call our beloved parliament and State House a brothel considering section 137 of the Act’s definition of brothels, “Any person who keeps a house, room, set of rooms or place of any kind for purposes of prostitution commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.” That said and your deployment of figurative speech understood by students of literature like myself, our parliament has some really decent and fine ladies and gentlemen, some of the finest you can find in the region.
