There was grief and a somber mood on Thursday, 31-7-2025, at Maracha District headquarters when the Ambulance arrived with the body of the late Ambassador Angualia Richard, for the district council to pay its tribute.
Born on 13-7-1972 to Mr Adabo Silas as his father and Mrs Sarah Omuiru as his mother, Angualia Richard who graduated from Makerere University, rose through the positions of Assistant Town Clerk for Arua Municipal, to being appointed an Ambassador, died on Tuesday 29-7-2025 after he was involved in a head-on collision motorcycle accident with another motorist near Abi Zhadi farm in Ayivu East, Arua City.
The secretary for social services in Maracha District council, Hon Alema Dicky, who doubles as the Councilor for Workers, eulogised the late Ambassador Angualia as someone who was faithful and devoted to serving God and his country, Uganda.
Based on situations where politicians who lose elections in NRM Primary elections at LC5 or MP positions but they decide to run as independent candidates, Hon Alema described the late as one of the unique politicians who upholded the core values and principles of the NRM Party, by deciding not to contest as Independent candidate after losing election but rather he mobilized votes for the party.
Oluffe Sub-county Councilor, Hon Drasiku Paul Cwaa praised the late Angualia as a Politician who never rode on politics of segregation, and also a person who was down-to-earth and social with people.
While lambasting the NRM Party government for marginalizing the people of West Nile region, Hon Asara Knight, Arua City Woman MP Aspirant on NUP Party ticket, condemned the government's habit of dumping people from West Nile region on the way after appointing them to serve for a few years. Yet, in some regions of Uganda, people who get appointed in such positions are kept to serve for long, or those who are removed are left with some benefits, including, among others, cars, fuel, a driver, and bodyguards, all paid for by the government.
Hon Asara, who suffered extreme torture in the hands of security operatives when she was arrested, taken to Gulu and tortured together with Hon Robert Kyagulanyi, Hon Paul Mwiru, Hon Wadri Kassiano, and other staunch opposition members during the bloody Arua Municipality MP by-election in August 2018, advised Lawyer Adriko, the son of the late Ambassador Angualia Richard, never ever to join politics.
“In politics, if you are not careful enough, you will ruin your life forever because people will not easily employ you after you have failed in politics”, she advised.
The councilor for Agaii Town Council, Hon Asea Bosco who doubles as the LC5 Vice Chairperson and also the leader of government business in the council, requested the Central Government to accord the late Rtd Ambassador Angualia Richard a state burial because of his contributions to the Country.
Following the abrupt removal of the late Ambassador Angualia Richard from the public service, the Oleba Town Council Councilor Hon Drani Silva blamed the NRM government for the painful fate of the late Ambassador Angualia.
“When I was in University, I did some Political economy! Once you have been employed by the state, the state is supposed to continue with you! The biggest question I am asking President Museveni is, Why did he leave my brother Amb. Angualia in the middle of his life?”, furious Hon Drani who was annoyed over the unfortunate death of the late, asked as he wondered if there will be big people from Maracha District if the ones who reach such levels are left in the middle of the road.
Hon Asibazuyo Grace, the female Councilor representing Alikua and Yivu Sub-county to Maracha District Council, made a proposal for Maracha District Council to upgrade and name one of the roads in the district, in the name of the late Ambassador Angualia, in remembrance of his legacy.
The late Ambassador Angualia Laus Richard is scheduled to be buried on Saturday 2-August-2025 in Olevu, Nyadri South Sub-county, Maracha East Constituency in Maracha District.
Stay tuned.
