Arua District.
5-April-2025.
Philanthropist Hon Paparu Lillian, the Woman MP for Arua District, has bought a brand new Ambulance to serve the people of Vurra Constituency, Arua District.
This development by the Woman MP comes at a time when the Ministry of Health changed its policy and decided to regionalize the operation of Ambulances in Uganda, henceforth leaving health risks like deaths for districts with wider area land coverage like Arua District.
According to the records, Arua District has only two Ambulances bought by the government, with one donated to Kuluva Hospital which is a religious Hospital, and the other one which has overstayed at service for years since those years when Arua District had several Constituencies, it is now stationed at the district headquarters to manage general health and public health-related activities like immunization, health education, monitoring among others in the to lower level health centers units.
Speaking with our news reporter on Saturday evening, Hon Paparu Lillian, whose core 2021 - 2026 manifestos were on improving the health sector, education, and Socio-economic Transformation in Arua District, stated that it's the traumatizing pain of witnessing the sick people being transported to health units in Arua District.
While recounting her own experiences where she personally engaged in transporting some of the pregnant women to go and give birth in the health centers, Hon Paparu described such moments as painful because of the struggles in taking them to the facilities, even when such are supposed to be moments of joy.
“As a mother, aunt, sister, and a daughter, I know what it means to be in a state of despair when it comes to health challenges,” the woman MP narrated while decrying the overstretched Ambulances and health services in Arua District due to its wider area land coverage.
With Bondo Health Center IV, being the only highest point of health care in Arua District, and with several of the facilities in the district lacking health workers, the down-to-earth woman MP promised to expeditiously improve the health care system in Arua District through lobbying for more equipments, Ambulances and staffing in the health sector of the district.
In her concluding remarks, the woman MP Hon Paparu Lillian applauded the Boda Boda riders in Arua District for always being at the Care and transportation of the sick or pregnant mothers, whom they endeavor to carry amidst road challenges, especially in the various villages of the district.
