8-April-2025.
Hon Taban Yassin who served for 10 years (2011 - 2021) as the Yumbe District LC5 Chairperson, has declared his intention to contest for the same position in the upcoming 2026 - 2031 general elections.
The staunch NRM Cadre, Hon Taban, was overthrown from the position of LC5 Chairperson by Hon Asiku Abdul Mutalib during the 2021 general elections.
Apparently, Hon Taban Yassin is so far the potential candidate who has shown interest, qualifying him to be a threat to the incumbent Hon Asiku Abdul Mutalib, as other Candidates will also be showing their wish to contest for the same LC5 Chairperson position in the upcoming 2026 general election.
Both in the public assessment and official / media records, Hon Taban Yassin who served as the LC5 Chairperson from 2011 to 2021 left a mark in the political history of Yumbe District, through lobbying, coordination, and teamwork which resulted in numerous achievements from the health sector, to the education sector, to Socio-economic Transformation sector, to infrastructure sector among others.
FOR AN INSTANCE, UNDER HEALTH.
By 2010, Yumbe District had only 19 health centers, but when Hon Taban Yassin came into power in 2011 and served up to 2021, he was able to establish 26 more health facilities through his lobbying, coordination, and cooperation work method, bringing the total number of health facilities to 45.
Out of the 26 health facilities he lobbied together with the then some of the Yumbe District officials, 15 of the health centres were NGO / donor-funded and 11 of them were lobbied directly from government of Uganda.
