Let's be grateful to the government that guarantees our security and ensures our peaceful environment.
Currently, in Mogadishu, Somalia, the government has ordered all the business owners to install CCTV cameras within their business premises. Thus, anyone without CCTV cameras would get arrested.
On the other hand, the Al-Shabaab instead ordered that anyone who dares to install any CCTV cameras within their business premises would not be arrested but get killed.
Business owners are now confused. They don't want to get arrested by the police. And they don't want to get killed by the Al-Shabaab militia. Thus, they decided to close all their business.
If this continues, there will be a serious socio-economic disaster in Somalia.
Business owners and their employees will have grave financial challenges. There will be a loss of income and revenue. Those with small businesses will resort to borrowing to survive. Thus, there will be debt accumulation. Of course, all these will lead to financial instability.
Furthermore, we can't ignore the emotional and psychological challenges such scenarios will have on the lives of people. There aill be increased stress and anxiety, loss of self-esteem and confidence, depression, feelings of failure, and guilt.
The closure of businesses will have social impacts. There will be strained relationships with family and friends, social isolation, and reduced social networks.
Personally, many individuals will have reduced quality of life, decreased health and well-being, and reduced sense of purpose.
In the medium and long run, there will be increased vulnerability to poverty, reduced economic mobility, and decreased opportunities for future entrepreneurship.
Therefore, in my view, it is right to say that the government that guarantees your security and ensures your peaceful environment has given you everything you need.
As 2026 approaches, let our agenda be "security first." And that's where our votes should go.
