Police in Arua district are investigating a case of assault and threatening violence involving the Member of Parliament for Ayivu West Constituency John Lematia and James Ariko, a DSTV technician in Arua city.
Drama ensued on Easter Sunday 31-3-2024 at Dream Land Hotel located at Kuluva trading center along Arua-Nebbi highway in Arua district when the legislator and the technician engaged in a fight reportedly over a woman identified as Faith Eyotaru 25, a relationship officer at Victoria University Kampala.
The scuffle started after Ayivu West Mp John Lematia went to swim at Dreamland Hotel with Faith Eyotaru only to find Ariko, who had gone to the same hotel earlier. However, upon seeing the duo coming out of the vehicle, Ariko confronted Lematia with both men claiming to be having a relationship with the lady. It took the intervention of the staff at the hotel who intervened and separated the fight between the men.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident happened at around 3:00pm on sunday. According to Angucia after the scuffle Ariko and Lematia rushed to Arua City Central Division to register their complaints but were accordingly directed to report at Arua District police headquarters at Odumi in Vurra where they respectively registered a case of assault and threatening violence.
“By the time DPC and the team arrived at Dreamland hotel, they found when both men had gone to register their complains at Arua City Central Division, from where they were directed to go and report at Arua District police headquarters at Odumi in Vurra”, Angucia said in a statement.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that Faith Eyotaru had a long time love relationship with one Jimmy Ariko but she allegedly separated with Ariko last year. She then fell in love with John Lematia, the MP for Ayivu West Constituency, who reportedly connected her to the job at Victoria University in Kampala, as Relationship Officer.
A Reliable source told URN that the woman in question told the police officers during a round table meeting with the conflicting parties that her love relationship with Ariko ended and now she is in love with Lematia.
When contacted, Lematia declined to comment on the matter, noting that he is attending a function in Adumi.
