The district police commander for Maracha District, SP Joshua Kananura who was transferred to the district in March-2022 has been suspended from his duty as DPC under unclear circumstances.
The development which took place on Monday 4-November-2024, came at a time when the image of the police in Maracha District has been mingled with claims of extortion and alarming smuggling confrontation with the residents.
Maracha District NRM Chairperson Ofekua Gabriel who recently stormed the Central Police Station with some angry residents over alleged misconduct and corruption of the police said, the regime of the outgoing DPC Joshua Kananura has been with full of controversies because many people have been complaining and even reporting to him as NRM Chairperson, the DPC's personal involvement in confiscating smuggled goods that came into the district, from DRC Congo, an allegation the DPC has always denied by saying, he always remits to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) the smuggled goods he confiscates in any part of Maracha District.
Speaking on a telephone callon Tuesday evening 5-November-2024, the outgoing DPC, SP Joshua Kananura who confirmed he is no longer the DPC for Maracha District, described his situation as a normal transfer.
“I have been transferred 14 times now! Infact, I have even stayed in Maracha District for almost 2 years. So, to me, it is a normal transfer”, SP Joshua lamented while stating Police Headquarter Kampala as his new duty station.
However according to a classified information shared with this online news publication team, some highly placed intelligence sources are alleging that, the dilemma of SP Joshua Kananura stems from how he mishandled the entire saga involving embattled LC3 Chairperson Hon Saul Abiriga who was severally reported for taking away 900,000 Shs belonging to 75-Years-Old Mzee Andrua Simon a disabled PDM beneficiary in Awiziru Sub-county.
