One of the major factors leading to a high level of poverty in our region is weak financial flow in our region. There are more rich people in Western Uganda because the region has strong financial flow. People from Western Uganda get money through different ways. They get money through the sale of coffee, banana, milk, cows, and tea, and many of them are educated and employed in both private and public sectors.
Therefore, we must identify high-value cash crops that can do well in our areas. Of course, coffee, banana, and cocoa can do well on our lands.
As concerned individuals, we need to find out ways of initiating and motivating our people to begin growing these crops by providing access to quality inputs (seeds, fertilizers, equipment). We could also organize farmer training and workshops, foster partnerships between farmers and buyers, and encourage youth involvement in growing those crops instead of growing marungi.
By implementing these strategies, coffee and cocoa growing can become a significant contributor to local economic growth, enhancing money circulation and improving livelihoods.
