Maracha District Abandons Maintaining a Road in Greater Oluvu Sub-county for 3 Years.

The residents in Maracha Constituency, Maracha District have on Thursday 3-October-2024 expressed their disappointment with Maracha District leadership for failing to maintain Dregua road which links Agaii Town council, Agaii trading center near All Saints Seed Secondary School to Obiba Sub-county upto DRC Congo border.

According to the residents, the wide and long Dregua road measuring 18 Kilometers has been abandoned from been used by both the residents and also visitors who pass via the road, which the residents said, they advise travelers who are visitors, not to use this road because they may get stuck on it because of its impassable state.

Some locals who spoke on anonymity stated that, weeks ago, officials from Maracha District survived getting stuck on this sorry road if only they didn't realize and made a U turn with their vehicles.

A resident from Marubeke Village, Mr Atiku Francis accused the technical services department in Maracha District for not paying attention to their cry and yet the same district officials have been using this road when it was in a good state.

Adebo Charles, a motorist from Ayivu West Constituency, Arua City who survived getting stuck on this road while traveling  on Thursday 3-October-2024 appealed to the concerned stakeholders in Maracha District to work on this road in order to save people.

Despite the road not been maintained for the last 3 years, the LC3 Chairman for Agaii Town Council Hon Atiku Amos lamented that, as a local council, they have in the past 2 years been recommending the road for the district to do an upgrade on it but their request has been in vain as the Term of office for the current elected leaders comes to an end by next year 2025.

However, in an interview, Hon Asea Bosco the LC5 Vice Chairman for Maracha District who doubles as the area Councilor for Agaii Town Council, upon acknowledging indeed the road has not been maintained for some time now, defended the district by saying that, maintenance of this road is in plan as the district has already allocated a budget for it.

Police in Arua district are investigating a case of assault and threatening violence involving the Member of Parliament for Ayivu West Constituency John Lematia and James Ariko, a DSTV technician in Arua city.
