A road crush on Monday 2-September-2024 at Oluffe Bridge has left over 8 people critically injured after the car overturned on the Bridge.
A Toyota Noah car with registration number UAV 881K enroute from Arua to Koboko knocked Oluffe Bridge rails in Kijomoro Sub-county in Maracha District, leaving the Bridge rails and the car damaged.
The LC3 Chairman for Maracha Town Council, Hon Orijabo Henry who was a witness at the scene of accident said, the tire of the car which was carrying around 10 people bursted at the point when it was crossing the bridge henceforth hitting the bridge rails and overturning severally.
He attributed the accident to poor mechanical condition of the car.
OC Traffic for Maracha District, Inspector of Police (ip) Muhoozi Julius reiterated that the critically injured passengers have been rushed to Maracha hospital for medical treatment.
He appealed to road users, especially the motorists, to reduce their speed when approaching bridges.
While responding to situations where some vehicles during accidents destroy parts of bridges and signposts along the roads, the OC Traffic said, they are enforcing the law and guidelines passed under the Ministry of Works and Transport by ensuring drivers of such car accidents pay levies for the damages caused.
Today's accident on Oluffe bridge happened months after UNRA had just completed repairing the rails on Oluffe Bridge that was destroyed by another car, a Toyota Hillux double cabin.
